I’m proud to be associated with Daniel Oppliger and his world renowned travel company Tropical Sails Corp. Dan has invited me and a partner (all expenses paid) to host one of his sold out USA tours in August this year as astronomy guide.

Along with the USA Solar Eclipse Tours from Tropical Sails Corp, they also have been offering one-of-a-kind total solar eclipse experiences since 1991,  including Africa, Australia, Baja California, Caribbean Sea, China, Tahiti, and Turkey. Just recently they had groups in the Java Sea of Indonesia.

Solar Eclipse Tours from Salt Lake City for August 21, 2017

The year 2017 will be a grand year for astronomers, photographers, and astronomy enthusiasts alike in North America will bear witness to an astronomical phenomenon that has not happened in the USA since Feb. 26, 1979. The 21st of August 2017 will see the Moon casting a shadow on the face of the Earth as it blocks the Sun to produce a total solar eclipse.

The perfect alignment of the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth will cast the Moon’s shadow on a path  a little over 100 miles wide taking a wide arching through the USA including Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, southern Illinois,  eastern Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina.

Solar eclipse chasers, amateur astronomers, and ecliptophiles from around the world will be converging on these areas of the United States to witness an astronomical event that has befuddled men throughout history. Major U.S. cities in the path of totality: Casper, WY; Kansas City, KS; Jefferson City, MO; Kansas City, MO; Lincoln, NE; Salem, OR; Columbia, SC; Greenville, SC; Nashville, TN, St. Louis, MO; Charleston, SC

The event will produce some of the mind-boggling effects such as remarkable solar prominences, the sun’s corona, and some eerie lighting effects that will bring observers back to ancient times and relive the awe and fear of civilizations that worshipped the Sun God.

As one client of Tropical Sails Corp aptly put is, “The whole phenomenon is the closest thing you can ever have to seeing the face of God.” In fact, day will be as dark as the night and spectators can get a glimpse of the different planets of the Solar System is a phenomenon surreal in itself.

2. Eclipse Indonesia 2016 026According to Daniel Oppliger, Tropical Sails Corp’s President, “The duration of the solar eclipse increases the closer you are to the center line of the eclipse as well as the apex of the eclipse ark. At Tropical Sails we will be largely considering historical cloud cover as well as the overall length of the eclipse.”

Predicting west of the Grand Tetons will have the highest probabilities of clear skies, Tropical Sails Corp will offer three Solar Eclipse tours on the 21st of August 2017, setting up observation in the Teton Valley of Driggs, Idaho.

The solar eclipse tours include the 8-night Teton Springs Lodge and Yellowstone Adventure, the 7-night Yellowstone  Historic Hatchet Resort and Tetons Solar Eclipse Adventure, and the 3-night  Idaho Solar Eclipse fly-in package from Salt Lake City.

The first two tours will feature a Snake River rafting trip, a wildlife safari in the early evening, and a traditional Chuck Wagon dinner.

Foxwood Astronomy announces the launch of three smart phone applications, available on the iTunes App Store. Designed by eclipse chasers for eclipse chasers, these apps will help novice observers learn about total solar eclipses, understand what is happening, prepare their observation and photography plans and most importantly, enjoy the beauty of one of nature’s most spectacular events.

On August 21, 2017, millions of people from all over the world will converge into the path of totality. As the moons shadow sweeps the nation from coast to coast, first time observers as well as experienced eclipse chasers will be hoping for the rare opportunity to witness this amazing celestial event. A couple of other apps offer assistance to get you in the path of totality, but Solar Eclipse Timer is the only app that provides precise timing with audible announcements and tones so that you do not miss anything during this magical event. Many will join Tropical Sails Corp on one of its’ many tours.

2017 Total Solar Eclipse Timer, the only “talking timer”, transforms novice eclipse observers into prepared eclipse guides. Here are a few of the helpful features included:

  • – auto loading GPS geo-location helps you insure that you are in the path of totality
  • – contact times are automatically calculated for your current location
  • – audible announcements remind you to observe for interesting phenomena during the partial phases
  • – count down announcements and audible tones help you mark contact times and max eclipse
  • – a demo program, which includes an actual total solar eclipse video, is a great tool to use to practice your photography plan
  • – partial phase image sequences calculator helps you know when to snap the shots to create your equally spaced Partial Phase Sequence Compilation, just like the pros do it.

Complex enough for experienced eclipse chasers – simple enough for first time observers. $1.99
